Opioid Antagonists & Texas Law Enforcement

The President of the Texas Medical Board has asked the Attorney General "[w]hether section 483 .102 of the Health and
Safety Code authorizes an eligible prescriber to directly or by standing order prescribe an opioid antagonist to law enforcement agencies.

On October 4, 2017, the Texas Attorney General's office opined "[s]ection 483.102 of the Health and Safety Code authorizes a prescriber to directly or by standing order prescribe an opioid antagonist to law enforcement agencies in a position to assist persons experiencing an opioid-related drug overdose."
